Tourism and City Information.

Over the years I've spent my holidays in a number of cities around the world (I'm a city type of person really, though when the Pound bought more Swiss Francs I liked to holiday in the Alps, too).

In the last few years the Net has really expanded, and various cities have really had a lot of work put into their WWW pages. Here are a sample of a few places I like to visit (both physically and via the net!).

Munich

Munich is a very enjoyable, if rather expensive, place to visit and sample the beer - I can recommend the delicious Weissbier they sell in the bar in the Ostbahnhof! This WWW page is provided by the Munich Tourist Office. To find somewhere to stay, ask in the Tourist Info office in the Hauptbahnhof (main station), but if you want to save on their commission, walk out of the main entrance to the station (on the square, facing the tram stops) and walk down the street that goes off to the right (Schillerstrasse) - there are lots of small hotels down there, which are as inexpensive as you'll find in such a convenient place for public transport.

Here's a plan of the barrier-free central area of the Munich U-bahn (Underground/Subway) and S-bahn (suburban rail) networks as at 2006. (Caution: It's a 750K PDF!!)

The Netherlands

OK, I know this is a country, not a city, but I've visited quite often!

Prague

Ah! Zlata Praha! (Golden Prague) - I think this is my favourite city of all, a wonderful combination of beautiful architecture which wasn't blown to bits in WW2, friendly people, and low prices (though still twice as expensive as the rest of the Czech Republic!). Prague is particularly well served by the WWW.

Circumstances mean that I was last in Prague in the summer of 1999, so I'm removing most of my pages about travel, hotels and beer in Prague, as most of it will now be horribly out of date. I'll leave verifiable general information on here.
If you're looking for someone to book accommodation for you, try the Andel 3W Tourist Service site - they're a bit slow in replying to emails, but their site has lots of info and they will book you a place.

Toronto

Just for a change from the old world, try the new! I was extremely impressed by how clean the city centre was (spotless!) - unfortunately, this is not something we're very good at in the UK. Here's the Toronto Transit Commission homepage.

Vienna

Another favourite city of mine (I don't know - I must have some affinity for the Hapsburgs!). More expensive than Prague but another beautiful city centre.
