Arwel Parry's Home Page.
09-06-2006: Site review completed. Lots of content deleted and all
links checked to make sure that they still work. Over the next few days I will
develop a new site which will replace the pages already up here, therefore it
is almost certain that any bookmarks recorded in the last ten years will no
longer work. You have been warned!
08-06-2006. Site redevelopment begins...
This site is permanently under development, bu after a few years'
dormancy I'm about to start re-developing it again as bits of the site have
been online since 1996 and are now horribly out of date. Things may change
without warning, and large chunks of the site are about to be deleted....
So what's on these pages, then?
Lots of links to things that interest me!
- "Local interest" are things that I
link to quite often, the home page of my local council, my local radio station,
the Internet Movies Database, etc..
- "Philatelic and numismatic sites" - OK,
I'm a keen stamp collector with a side interest in coins, so here are some
links to various stamps and coin collecting site, official philatelic bureaux
of various countries, etc., currency scans.
- "Railway Web Sites worldwide" - I worked
for British Rail in various computing jobs from 1979 until it was privatised,
so it's not altogether surprising that I have a more than passing interest in
the operations of railways around the world, having travelled on more than a
few! The Swiss Railways site linked from here
is the place to look if you want to know the time of trains all over Europe,
and the connecting times of buses to the smallest places in Switzerland!
- "Newslinks" - there are lots of newspapers
on the Web these days, and here are links to some of my favourites.
- "My favourite search engines" - handy
links to Google, etc.
- "Tourism and information sites" of
places I've gone on holiday to and enjoyed. This will be padded out in due
course (hopefully!) with useful comments on public transport, accommodation and
sightseeing.... Guides to public transport in Prague and Vienna
have been added, also a pub guide to Prague.
- "My favourite SF links" - links to former
and upcoming science fiction conventions I may be attending or have some
interest in; SF magazines and tv programmes including the excellent
"Babylon 5". The listing of
release dates of B5 videotapes in the UK proved a
popular hit when it was mentioned in the Babylonian Times- as of 20th
September 1999 the listing is now complete, as we've had the entire series
released on videotape. Now all the tapes of the spin-off series Crusade
have also been released, not forgetting the DVDs!
- A trip report on EuroOctocon, the
1997 Irish National and European Science Fiction Convention, held in Dublin
Castle on 25-27 October 1997 ("What I did on my holidays.").
- "Political links", since I'm treasurer
of my local branch of the Labour Party, here're a few links to home pages of
various UK political parties, and a few other interesting pages, like the 1996
and 1998 local election results in Crewe and Nantwich (well, they're moderately
interesting if you live there like I do, and sometimes stand for election!).
This has now been expanded to include links to the homepages of all the UK
political parties that I know of which have one, including the new site of the
Official Monster Raving Loony Party. Homepages of the UK House of Commons and
House of Lords, together with House of Commons Order Papers and records of
debates (Hansard). This page also now includes links to the home pages and
records of debates of the Australian and Canadian federal governments and of
many States and Provinces.
- Full results of the 1997 UK Parliamentary
elections - all 659 seats!
Well that's enough puffery from me. Let's move on to the
main menu...
